SAE Standards Development led by Q-Lab's Experts
SAE International (formerly the Society of Automotive Engineers) is a global professional association and standards organization for engineering professionals in the aerospace, automotive, and commercial vehicle industries. Our team maintains an active presence within SAE International. Q-Lab helps ensure that widely-used automotive testing protocols used in automotive weathering and corrosion tests are fair, accessible, and modern.
SAE Committees
The SAE Textile and Flexible Plastics Committee is home to SAE's most important weathering testing standards. This committee is responsible for xenon arc standards SAE J2527 & SAE J2412 as well as UV fluorescent test SAE J2020, in addition to numerous other laboratory protocols for interior and exterior materials tests.
Q-Lab also has an active role in the SAE Lighting Materials Standards Committee, part of the Lighting Systems Steering Committee that reports to the Motor Vehicle Council (MVC). The Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to lighting materials and coatings - primarily organic materials used as optical lenses. SAE J576 is a key test in this committee for testing automotive lenses.
The SAE Materials, Processes, and Parts Council (MPPC) promotes, directs, supervises and provides for the development of consensus SAE Technical reports. The council also conducts investigations for activities related to engineered materials, processes and parts used in the surface mobility industry. Participants in the SAE Materials, Processed and Parts Council include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government and other interested parties. SAE J2334, an important automotive corrosion test, is managed by this group.
