Q-Lab's technical applications team is presenting a two-part series this fall focusing on how to perform and understand some important international automotive corrosion testing standards. The second installment in this series focuses on SAE J2334: Laboratory Cyclic Corrosion Test.
SAE J2334 is a widely-used protocol for conducting accelerated laboratory corrosion testing of automotive paints and other components. This standard includes some requirements that may be challenging for some users to interpret and execute properly. In this new presentation, Q-Lab experts will explain and provide recommendations for the important features of this test, including:
- Electrolyte solution preparation
- High humidity requirements
- Salt application
- Test monitoring using corrosion coupons
A case study is included that illustrates how controlling transitions between wet and dry steps can help improve test-to-test repeatability, and how the use of mass-loss corrosion coupons can help verify consistent chamber performance.
