Reporting to the President, this newly created position will lead Q-Lab’s worldwide hiring, onboarding, coaching and employee development efforts. This critical role combines both strategic planning and ‘hands – on’ leadership and requires a person who has an innate love for science, engineering and technology.  A degree in Engineering, Science, or Manufacturing/ Operations or demonstrated experience is required.  


Accountabilities include developing talent management systems, leadership training, recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, compensation analysis, employee retention, succession planning and developing employee satisfaction initiatives. This role requires a person who is comfortable performing tactical responsibilities -- ensuring that HR tools, training and resources are available to support every employee. Responsibilities include:


Responsible for all locations worldwide, including USA, England, Germany and China. 


Understand and identify the capabilities, skill sets and interests of Q-Lab’s human resources and use this data to determine staff development needs and staffing decisions.


Manage the recruitment process for Engineers, Scientists, and Manufacturing associates including sourcing, assessments, interviews, and offers.

Provide leadership in the development and execution of recruitment strategies for all locations.

Assembler/Solderer - Westlake, Ohio

The person in this position will solder wire harnesses and small sub-assemblies for production equipment.


Skills Required:


·         Create soldered connections to applicable quality standards.


·         Wire, solder, and install options in sub-assembly and final assembly.


·         Experience with Lead-Free soldering a plus.


·         Utilize small hand tools for positioning parts to assist in assembly operation, stripping wire, forming leads, etc.


·         Assemble electrical and mechanical components /equipment using assembly drawings and parts lists provided by engineering.


·         Proficient with the use of various hand and power tools.


·         Prepare sub-assemblies and related parts for final assembly.

Manufacturing Engineering Technician - Westlake, Ohio

This position will provide support for Manufacturing Engineering projects to improve the quality and efficiency of Q-Lab’s manufacturing processes.

Skills Required

1. Assemble control cabinets and electrical and mechanical components for industrial equipment.

2. Operate a variety of manual machines including vertical milling machine, drill press, surface grinder, and lathes.

3. Operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, shears, grinders, punch presses, and miscellaneous hand tools to bend, cut and form components.

4. Ability to TIG weld aluminum and stainless steel.

5. Must be able to read and work from blueprints and written specifications.

6. Basic factory skills and able to operate various material-moving equipment (forklifts, jib / gantry cranes, etc.)

7. Utilize problem-solving skills and work with team members.

8. Must maintain good housekeeping (5S practices).

9. Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.


Additional Qualifications

1. High school education + Recognized Industrial training program or apprenticeship.

Director of Quality & Reliability– Westlake, Ohio

This position reports to VP of Operations and manages staff of approximately 5-7 full time employees.


Q-Lab manufactures the highest quality, easiest to use, and most durable weathering and corrosion test equipment in the world.  Continuing to raise the bar in this area is essential to sustaining Q-Lab’s market leading position.   As the Worldwide Quality/Reliability Manager, you will champion the Quality function within Q-Lab to relentlessly continue to reduce product:

·         field failure rates

·         overall warranty costs

·         initial field startup quality issues

·         production delays and stoppages due to issues with part quality/reliability

·         overall cost of quality due to non-conforming parts and processes

Responsibilities Include:

·         Coordinate the efforts of Assembly, Fabrication, Engineering, Purchasing and Outside Suppliers to resolve urgent and long-term quality issues

·         Advocate for reliability and robust design in R&D, and participate as a technical contributor

·         Collaborate with design engineering throughout the entire design process.  Also, review and approve engineering changes and new products prior to release to assure they meet our standards for Reliability and Manufacturability.

·         Perform root cause failure analysis

·         Work with production to identify and resolve workmanship issues

·         Respond rapidly to quality issues affecting production workflow and supply chain.  Collect failure data from the field.

·         Analyze the failure data and identify trends

·         Identify specific product components and systems proven to be unreliable or defective.

·         Develop and manage a Non-Conformance program.  Manage QC Inspection operations.

·         Evaluate and grade vendor quality performance

Assistant Managing Director-Operations - Homestead, Florida

 The Assistant Managing Director - Operations will be a key member of small, dedicated team running our weathering test sites and laboratories at Q-Lab in Florida, Arizona, and Germany. Due to continued growth, this is a new position that will report to our Managing Director - Florida. We are looking for an outgoing, highly detailed and hands-on manager, engineer, scientist, or technically minded individual with superior customer service and selling skills. This role requires a significant amount of flexibility, business acumen and technical proficiency.  As the main administrator of Q-Lab’s procedures, operation functions, and strategies for supervisor training and development, you will be accountable for contributing to our team’s success.


Primary Responsibilities


    • Interact with technicians through VP-level customers on general business and technical issues
    • Review and analyze current business strategies business
    • Educate customers and prospects on their testing options and standards that we use
    • Interpret customer instructions into standard test input
    • Explain test reports and billing to customers
    • Monitor needs for lab, personnel, and field planning
    • Review current needs and create expansion plans
    • Create process control charts of daily activities using Excel
    • Correctly file calibration information in computer
    • Determine need for and order parts, supplies, and test materials
    • Document errors and implement corrective actions
    • Be one of several key contacts for ISO 17025 accreditation
