Field Technician (Buckeye, AZ)

We are currently looking for a Lab Technician to assist in our onsite weathering testing.

Our materials test satellite facility located in Buckeye, AZ performs natural and artificial weathering tests to determine the outdoor exposure durability of a wide range of materials. Weathering damage causes billions of dollars of product damage each year, and we help our customers determine if their products will last outdoors. We write test reports on the performance of these materials during their exposure. We test all types of products for ability to withstand outdoor degradation due to the weather. We use large weathering fixtures and frames to mount specimens for exposure, and we use various tools and other hardware to create special fixtures.

JOB SUMMARY:

Removal of specimens from exposure and deliver them to the Evaluations Department or Shipping Department. Remounting of existing exposures as well as re-exposing previously exposed tests after the evaluations is completed.

Hours are days Monday through Friday

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Remove specimens from exposure for the purpose of having evaluations completed on them
  • Remove specimens from exposure and deliver directly to shipping to be returned to customers
  • Remounts existing test specimens when necessary after removal for repair of racks, or to improve exposures
  • Continually consolidate tests on the Q-TRAC’s and AIM Boxes to make room for new tests
  • Re-exposure specimens after evaluations
  • Turn on/off Q-TRAC and AIM Boxes as scheduled
  • Complete Freeze/Thaw process as scheduled
  • Field Checks to maintain exposures correctly
  • Maintains Q-TRAC availability report
  • Maintains AIM Box availability report
  • Coordinates supplies for shipping department and test supplies

SKILLS REQUIRED:

This position requires a degree of manual dexterity and ability to work with tools. Must be able to read and understand complex test instructions. Must be comfortable working outside for extended periods and must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Troubleshooting malfunctioning lab instruments or test equipment and test mechanical mechanisms and electronic circuitry for “root cause” failures.

  • Willing and able to travel domestically, with some international travel, 50% to 80% of the time annually, to provide repair support to our Customers. This will include being away for up to a full week at a time as and when required.
  • Provide the customer with phone and email recommendations to resolve lab instrument issues and or follow up with on-going issues with the customer. This may include, but is not limited to; sending replacement parts, referring the information to the main home office for further guidance, or performing an on-site resolution.
  • Provide highly detailed feedback for customer complaints with root cause analysis.

Reporting to the Director of Quality and Reliability, the successful candidate will be responsible for final inspection and acceptance of all incoming materials and our manufactured product prior to shipment. This position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to perform multiple ongoing tasks.

  • Investigates quality and/or design issues and makes recommendations to the appropriate department for resolution.
  • Preforms failure analysis on non-conforming electronic assemblies down to the component level to determine the root cause.
  • Records, summarizes and communicates root cause analysis including the type and quantity of defect to quality and engineering for further investigation and preventative action purposes.

  • Compares instrument reading or displays with standards and rejects defective units.
  • Records type and quantity of defect for new and used electronic parts and other parts as required.
  • Examines assembly, component, or part for defects, trouble shoots and replaces defective components or repairs defective wiring after testing.
  • Inspect and test incoming RMA parts for evaluation and crediting purposes (as required).
  • Diagnose malfunctioning instruments or test equipment and examines and tests mechanisms and circuitry for failure mode.
  • Replaces or repairs defective parts according to OEM specifications.
  • Inspects instruments and test equipment periodically and adjusts calibration to ensure functioning within specified standards.
  • Calibrates instruments or test equipment according to established standards.
  • Other duties as required.

We Require:

  • Soldering certification, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 (recommended but not required)
  • High School Diploma or Trade School Diploma and an Associate's degree (A. S.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school graduate with six months to one year related experience with board level repair (through hole and surface mount technology), lead and lead-free soldering.
  • Advanced mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions or procedure manuals.
  • Ability to discriminate between different colors.
  • Microsoft Office software to include Word, Excel and Power Point and must possess the ability to type on a keyboard, smartphone, or laptop/tablet proficiently.
