About the Role: Reporting to the Machining and Fabricating Supervisor, this position will support the tool and die maintenance and sharpening needs for multiple stamping lines and punching machines. This position will also be responsible to safely setup and troubleshoot new and custom tools in punch presses.
Responsibilities:
- Set-up and operate a precision Surface Grinder
- Mechanical ability to disassemble/ assemble punch press tooling for sharpening applications
- Inspection of tooling to ensure it conforms to dimensional and surface finish specifications after grinding
- Install, test punch and troubleshoot press tooling
- Safely setup operators and tools for coil feed and single hit production lines
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years general industrial environment experience or a successful graduate of any recognized apprenticeship, or vocational program
- Basic math skills
- Must be able to read and work from blueprints and written specifications
- Operate various material-moving equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks
- Use of a variety of measuring devices, micrometers, calipers, etc
- Working knowledge of basic computer software
Desired Skills and Capabilities (not required)
- Dry and wet grind tool steel punches and dies with minimal heat buildup
- Inspection of tooling to ensure it conforms to dimensional and surface finish specifications after grinding
- Operate a Kent Surface grinder
- Ability to develop fixtures and or tooling to hold dies while sharpening
- Determine grinding speeds, feed rates, and grinding wheels to be used for application
- Ability to inspect grinding wheel for flaws and change if necessary
- Ability to properly dress grinding wheel
